Comtat d'Urgell. Established c. 785–790 from the March; capital La Seu d'Urgell, later Balaguer. Willed as a separate county by Borrell II to his son Ermengol I (992–1010), founding the long Ermengol line (Ermengol I through the heiress Aurembiaix, d. 1231). A second (Cabrera) line ended with Ermengol X (1267–1314); his heir Teresa d'Entença married the future Alfonso IV of Aragon. The county was finally absorbed into the Crown of Aragon in 1413 after James II of Urgell's revolt against Ferdinand I.
